Last Update (Tagline, Final Video)

Hi again, for now i will be talking about what we have done for our tagline. At first, we had zero ideas on how we should go about doing our tagline. Since it is also considered as one single assignment for another module, we were quite worried if we would be able to come up with something interesting. Then finally we came up with an idea but i'm not so sure if it will attract the viewers' attention or not.. So anyways, as we were thinking whether we should make use of live footage or graphic elements to form a tagline, we finally decided to create something that is somewhat similar to our vfx shot. This is to show the relevance of the tagline to the overall video. We made use of green codes and made it seem like someone is typing confusing codes on the keyboard before a 'warning' notice box appears right in the middle of the scene. And our tagline, which goes like; "Do not cave in to temptation, unite against corruption." appears in the box. This is to serves as a warning towards the viewers to never be succumb to temptation like what Sam. who is our main action did and everyone should learn to unite against corruption. As for post production, we spent quite a few hours to complete everything. Overall, since the lighting weren't that bad when we were filming, we didn't have to make changes to the colour or brightness of the footage. Other than that, we decided to cut a few parts here and there before adding in our tagline. I'm really glad that although we have quite a number of shots, we were able to fit everything into the 40 seconds range. Tomorrow will be the deadline, which is also for us to carry out our final presentation.. We are definitely feeling quite nervous ~_~ Hopefully everything would go well!

VFX Shot Ver. 2 / Filming Part 2

VFX Shot

Hello, today i will be updating about what we have done so far. For our vfx shot, we decided to change it to something else as the previous one was said to be too simple. Hence, we tried to think of something that is somewhat related to computer hacking/money transaction. We found a website www.hackertyper.net which enables us to randomly type any keys on the keyboard and complex scripting values would appear on the screen. This is quite useful for us as we don't have to think of weird names and codes for the shot. Next, we downloaded a software and took down a video footage of the computer screen while we began to type. Then we made a 'Notice Box' in photoshop before combining both elements together in after effects. Also, a mouse arrow was animated in after effects as well in order to make it look like a real person is moving his/her mouse.

Filming

On this day, we went back to the same location to conduct a reshoot. As we have already made new plans on how to shoot the different shots using more dynamic camera angles, things were rather easy to carry out as compared to the last time. We would also like to thank our fellow casts as they were willing to fork out time amidst their busy schedules to lend us a helping hand. The weather today was great too and we didn't have to keep adjust the camera settings. Also, this time round, we had the casts to speak louder while we film so that their voices could be heard more clearly. Overall, we are rather pleased with what we have done today as it seem like our new footage looks better compared to the previous ones that we took. Tomorrow will be the deadline for this assignment and we are only left with a few hours to finish up our final editing. I really hope things would go well tomorrow..

VFX Shot

Hello, today i will updating about we have done for our vfx shot. We decided to create a video which will be played on the computer that Sam is using in the advertisement. So basically, it shows the audience that Sam has successfully completed a bank transaction.

After a bit of research, we decided to follow this particular tutorial:

The final video:

That's all for today, we will be updating again soon after our second round of filming. See ya!

Filming

Yesterday, Peishan and I gathered with our casts at Peishan's dad's work place which is located at Ubi Ave 3 at around 11am. When everyone has reached, we began to set up our relevant equipment first while the casts took a short break. We have invited my dad, Peishan's older brother and her sister-in-law's siblings to help us out by acting. So before we began shooting, we organised the shots accordingly from the hardest to the easiest so that we wouldn't take up too much time. (The casts had to leave at around 3pm that's why) Firstly, we filmed the part where Peishan's older brother (who acted as the main character, Sam) using the computer. We left the computer screen green in colour so that we can edit it by adding in our vfx shot during post production. Right after, we carried on to the part where two policemen and Sam's colleague would walk in and then we did a close up shot on one of the policemen (acted by Peishan's sister-in-law's brother) where he would speak his line. However, as the audio wasn't that clear in the final footage, Peishan and i decided that we should allow the casts to speak using a mic and they would lip sync as we film. After which we began to shoot the part where the two policemen would hold onto Sam's shoulder while the three of them slowly leave the place. And it was time to shoot the part where Sam's colleague would approach him from his back and he would turn would with a shocked expression as his action has been caught by his colleague. We did a close up shot on Sam as he tells his colleague to keep his misdeed a action and for the next shot we made use of two cameras in order to capture the footage at two different angles. One camera was placed in a position so as to film a medium shot of Sam passing the cash to his colleague while another camera was held onto by Peishan as she filmed the dolly shot. Reason being, we wanted to conduct an effect transition to create a form of suspense by letting the viewers to wonder if Sam's colleague did accept the money or not. For the dolly shot, as Peishan slowly leaves the shop while the door closes (two people stood behind the door as they slowly pushed it) The last shot that we did was the one where one of us would hold onto the door knob and turn it indicating that a mysterious hand is opening the door. All in all, the problems that we faced was mainly the positions of the casts. We had to decide properly which position would be most appropriate for the casts to stand at in order to caption it at certain angles. Oh yes, and the lighting as well. We had to make sure that the lighting condition for all our footage is well balanced - not too bright or dark. However, Peishan and i worked well together so we could solve our problems easily. That's all for now, there will be more updates to come!

Pitch Presentation

22th Jan 2014

On this day, we had a pitch presentation in class where we would present about our idea/storyboards/treatment and so forth.. Initially, we were quite worried if the lecturers would approve our idea or not. And to be honest, we have changed our idea quite a few times before. Unfortunately, even after our presentation has ended, we had to change it for the last time as our lecturer said that embezzlement wouldn't really be considered as corruption/irrelevant to the main theme. Thus, we had to redo our storyboard, script and stuff. But it was okay i guess, as long as we get the right idea. Since everyone would be busy during cny, Peishan and i have decided to start filming on 2nd Feb. Hopefully everything would work out fine.
